What should I do with my tax for homestead (Can't sell my old house)?

How should Declare my homestead tax. I moved into my new house 6 months ago (declaring this a my homestead)...however, my old house had homestead already declared...(should i take the homestead exemption off this yet or will the IRS care when it comes tax time.)
