Daniel Johnston, What do you all think about him? A genius or a product of an interesting life?

I recently watched "The Devil and Daniel Johnston," a doentary about him. I'm having a struggle within myself about the genius of his nature, whether or not he is a genius or just made to be one because of his legend, which is made up of his surroundings. It seems like I have a struggle with art and what it is, I Know we are the determinants of what art is ourselves, but Mozart is a genius, not because everyone says he his, but it seems plain to see and hear that he his, he moves you with his medium as do many other artists that are considered geniuses. I do like Daniel Johnstons music for what it is, but I surely don't consider him a genius.
