How widespread was rationing in world war one?

Shortages came about half way through the war as the Atlantic links were disrupted. Britian managed to maintain links to most parts of the empire and there was littel disruption in Asia. By 1917however there was panic buying so rationing was brought in to control this at the end of the war - so nowhere near as stringent as WW2.
