Atheists: Rather than scorn the devout should we pity them for being so fearful of life they prefer illusion?

And why must we try to destroy these illusions if it brings them comfort? Despite common the misconception, all things are not equal. These people need an element of fiction to make their lives seem worthwhile. Why ridicule them for being weaker than yourselves?
